Let’s simplify this.
If you’re getting married in Australia, you need to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).
It sounds official.
It is official.
But it’s also one of the easiest parts of the whole process – when it’s done properly.
What is a Notice of Intended Marriage?
The NOIM is a legal form that tells the government: “We intend to get married.”
That’s it.
The legal part is minimal. The experience is everything else.
When do you need to lodge it?
At least one month before your wedding date.
Not a suggestion.
Not a guideline.
A legal requirement.
The legal part is minimal. The experience is everything else.
Most couples don’t realise this . . .
You don’t need everything planned before lodging your NOIM.
You can:
- book your celebrant
- lodge your NOIM
- work out the rest later
Waiting until everything is “final” is one of the most common (and unnecessary) delays.
How do you lodge a NOIM?
Simple.
You:
- complete the form
- provide your ID
- lodge it with your celebrant
That’s it.
Can it be done online?
Partially.
You can:
- fill out the form digitally
But it still needs to be witnessed and submitted correctly.
This is where having a celebrant involved early makes things easier.
What documents do you need?
- passport, or
- photo ID + birth certificate
- (if applicable☺
- divorce certificate, or
- death certificate
Nothing out of the ordinary.

The part people get wrong
It’s not the form.
It’s:
- leaving it too late
- filling it out incorrectly
- not having it properly witnessed
All fixable – but avoidable.
Here’s where I help
I don’t just “accept your NOIM”.
I:
- walk you through it
- check everything properly
- make sure it’s lodged correctly and on time
So you’re not:
- guessing
- stressing
- or fixing things at the last minute
Quick check
If you’re thinking:
“Can we just get this sorted early and not worry about it again?”

And you should.
